Sadly Cassie’s original rescue has closed so we are helping her to find her happy ever after. Here is what her current fosterer says about her:
Appearance:
She has an adorable expression, a slightly wiry top line with double coat underneath, a very pale underbelly and spotty legs – which we call her fishnets!
Character:
Cassie is full of character, incredibly trainable, especially with words that start with ‘Ch’.
Like most dogs, her sense of timing is impeccable and will remind you when its nearly dinner time.
She has a wide vocabulary and learns fast.
She loves a family howl, and will join in with gusto!
She is also sassy and you will soon learn to interpret her huffs and puffs, and will ask to be let out.
She is a solar powered dog, so access to sunny windows and patios throughout the day is essential to keep her powered up!
Trainability
She is calm on the lead, knows how to walk to heel off the lead when asked, is non reactive to dogs and people out and about (doesn’t much like high vis clothing though, so the bin man and postie may get a woof). Recall is pretty good, unless the sniffer is engaged – then the ears turn off. She has had some clicker training, and with some revision, will respond quickly, especially for recall reinforcement with a treat + clicker. She will mooch about you on a walk, but always has an eye on where you are and a shout of ‘this way’ keeps her with you. Cassie is sweet and loving, once she gets to know you. She has always been a nervous girl – having never lived in a house before she came to the UK, so many things were scary! She will need a thoughtful owner that understands stress impacts on dogs and doesn’t set her up to fail. She is potentially triggered by strangers coming to the house, will ‘collect the post’ for you, so best to have a separate post box, not the front door – likewise a parcel box to reduce high vis interactions. Introductions to house visitors need to be carefully managed, over time she will become either indifferent or very happy to see them (our lovely dog walker especially!), and we can advise the ways those are best managed including lead work, or baby gates – shutting her away just leaves her asking to join in. Cassie doesn’t like being physically pushed and pulled about, so advise against inexperienced owners looking for a ‘retriever’ type energy. She has a labrador type stomach, so there’s that. She is used to going to the groomers and having a bath and nails done – no problems at all.
Cassie is fit and healthy. She had an operation at the beginning of 2025 to remove both her anal glands as for some reason she kept getting infections and eventually an abscess – which was painful and distressing. Since the op she has had no issues at all and the vets are happy with her recovery with no adverse complications.
If you think you have the right home for this intelligent, brave girl – let us know via DM and we can tell you how the process works.
Hello from all of us here at Help 4 Hounds. We are a foster-based dog rescue in the South West but covering nationally where we can.
The rescue is run by Jenny Montague, Emma Tucker, and Selena Vigo Di Gallidoro, supported by an incredible network of volunteers, vets, and dog behavioural specialists.
